Excellent color quality displays, and color managed workflows are essential for professional artists, designers, and editors. The fast-paced rate at which creatives must work requires that color is done right the first time, every time. There is often no room in the schedule for multiple adjustments and re-editing. In addition, geographically dispersed teams and virtual production pipelines require the highest quality tools to achieve consistent and reliable color across all devices and applications in the workflow. And of course, all creatives want the colors that they see on their displays to faithfully replicate their final output in print, web, video or a physical product. If color is important to you, the Wacom Cintiq Pro 17, 22, and 27 are the ideal foundation upon which to build your creative workflow.
Whether you’re a photographer, illustrator, animator, video editor or designer, you (and your eyes) need a display of the highest quality to assure that you are productive and can create and deliver you very best work. Read on to understand why the new generation of Cintiq Pros provides creatives with all new levels of performance and productivity and can even save the cost of a secondary color reference monitor.
1.07 billion colors
All of the new Cintiq Pros are 10-bit displays, which means they deliver 1,024 colors to each of the Red, Green, and Blue color channels. Therefore, the total is 30 bits per pixel, or 1.07 billion colors, meeting the requirements for color grading and accurate color matching. The robust color performance is highly desirable in many workflows, giving a greater sense of depth, with smoother transitions and blends and no banding.
Hardware calibration
While the new Cintiq Pros include factory calibrations for all the color spaces mentioned, the Wacom Color Manager can be used for regular calibration updates to maintain color accuracy at the very highest level throughout the life of the product, or to calibrate the display to a custom color space.
Color spaces for professional use
Creative professionals need to use various color spaces depending on their workflow, industry, and intended delivery platform. Each Cintiq Pro is individually calibrated at the factory to a wide range of color spaces. Rec. 709 is the standard camera encoding color space for HDTV and the most common delivery color for broadcast. All of the new Cintiq Pros achieve 100% of the Rec. 709 color gamut, as well as sRGB, which is a similar color space. DCI-P3 is a video color space introduced by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) that is used for content intended for digital theater projection. Display P3 was implemented by Apple in 2015 and uses the DCI-P3 primaries, but with the CIE standard D65 white point. The new Cintiq Pro models all achieve at least 98% of both DCI-P3 and Display P3 coverage, as well excellent coverage of Adobe RGB. Other presets include Rec 2020 and EBU, and for viewing HDR content they support PQ (DCI and Rec. 2100) and HLG (Rec. 2100). Color accuracy
Displays with lower Delta E produce more accurate colors without color distortion, while also ensuring there is no color difference between the Cintiq Pros and other calibrated displays. With factory calibrations having a Delta E of <2, color deviance should be indistinguishable between any accurate color managed displays. For professionals who work on one monitor and review on another, accurate and consistent color reproduction is key. The new Cintiq Pros were all confirmed to have a Delta E of <1.5, as measured independently by Pantone during the Pantone Validated certification testing*.
*Testing was done using the sRGB, Adobe RGB, and Display P3 preset modes
Color data processing
The new Cintiq Pro series features 14-bit color processing for accurate and vibrant tone and colors across a wide range of color spaces and custom profiles.
Creatives have long trusted the Pantone system (PMS) for color reproduction across a wide range of uses such as graphics, packaging, branding fashion and industrial design. Not only are the new generation of Cintiq Pros Pantone Validated, but they have also received Pantone SkinTone Validation which meets the Pantone standard for displaying the entire range of skin tones in the Pantone system.

While the new Cintiq Pros have exceptional color performance, they can be calibrated using the Wacom Color Manager (WCM) to maintain its accuracy throughout the life of the product. The WCM software works not only with the WCM device, but also with other compatible calibrators. The WCM software will support the following products:
If you own any of the above products, you may download the WCM software from our download page for use with your device.
The choice of photographers wanting to see and edit every detail of their work or for video editors editing content destined to be viewed on 4K displays, 4K resolution is at the core of the Cintiq Pros’ display capabilities.
The Cintiq Pros have near-zero imagery and pen latency for an uninterrupted creative experience. The Wide Gamut IPS displays allow for the best color and viewing angles for immersing yourself in the screen. Also, when you are done working, the display makes a great gaming display!
The brightest displays Wacom has ever made, the Cintiq Pros let you view your images and videos with extreme accuracy and vivid colors.
The new Cintiq Pros are equipped with HLG (hybrid log-gamma) and the PQ (perceptual quantization) curves for displaying and editing HDR (high dynamic range) video content.
Preset modes for DCI-P3 and Rec. 2100 ensure you can work in the appropriate color spaces and gamma values. In addition, preset modes for PQ (DCI and Rec. 2100) and HLG (Rec. 2100) are available for viewing HDR content.
The etched glass surface of the Cintiq Pros not only provides a pen feeling that replicates working with the natural touch of paper, but it provides a matte finish to the display. Unlike high gloss screens which distort perceived color values and cause annoying reflections, the Cintiq Pros’ matte finish simulates real world color more closely, supporting critical color matching.
