头部

鼻子

运用横向三格、纵向往下两格的基本网格，可以确保鼻子比例不变，一个鼻孔在左下角的方格，另一个则在右下角。如果是剖面图，请使用较大的网格：鼻孔应横跨中间方块区域且朝向底部，确保比例正确。
要画出比较基本的鼻子，先在底部画一个菱形三角形，接着勾勒出鼻孔，然后在顶部与底部加上阴影，让整体更加细致。对鼻子加上阴影，让下方看起来颜色较暗，可以确保看起来更逼真。
眼睛
描绘眼睛似乎令人望之却步，尤其眼睛是脸部十分细致的部分。我们应该从简单的椭圆开始，这能够反映出眼睛的整体形状。你可以用手画，如果你更注重准确度，也可以使用网格来确保尺寸与形状正确。
要画一个人的脸，请记得虹膜和瞳孔都是圆形。如果你想要画出逼真的成果，或是展现栩栩如生的视觉效果，这一点非常重要。
对阴影有基本的掌握也很重要。瞳孔要尽量暗，虹膜的图案则应该能够反映出实际的细节样貌。运用空白空间展现反射在眼睛上的光源，会让你的画看起来更专业。在眼睛上方区域加上阴影，你还可以创造出一种匀称美妙的阴影效果。
脸颊
画脸颊或许看起来简单，只不过是在人像两边加上两条曲线而已。但是，如果想要确保脸颊看起来很逼真，这之间其实有很多的细微差异。
有个简单的方法可以让你画出正确的脸颊，即从两个互相重迭的圆圈开始，横纵画一个十字。十字下方的两个圆圈下半部区域，现在代表颧骨，只要你把鼻子和眼睛加上去，就会出现一个供你施展的空间。
知道怎么为这个区域加上阴影是关键。了解如何让脸颊光线正确的理想方法是参考球体。上方区域的颜色较浅，接着是中间色调然后到底部的暗色。一边是深色阴影，另一边是浅灰色。后者取决于人物面向哪一边，以及光源从哪个方向来。
Mouth
Working out how to draw a mouth varies depending on whether the subject has theirs open or closed. Open mouths with teeth showing are a lot harder to capture than those which are closed.
To capture the basic outline of a pair of lips, draw a horizontal axis and then a triangle across the middle. This will give you space to draw a curve above the line within the triangle to represent the drop in the middle of the upper lip. The area below the line should be used for the fuller, lower lip. Remember that the upper lip tends to be darker and should be shaded accordingly. It’s also important to keep in mind that lips do not appear well–defined unless the subject is wearing makeup.
Teeth can be difficult to capture. Remember that there shouldn’t be a hard line between each one. Instead use shading and light lines so they don’t appear wholly separate from each other. Teeth towards the back of the mouth should be shaded darker, with a grid used to ensure they each tooth sits in proportion to the other and the perspective doesn’t become warped.
Eyebrows
Eyebrows can easily be an afterthought, but getting them right is essential if you want to learn how to draw a portrait properly.
Rather than drawing in the hair immediately, eyebrows should be drawn in as a simple shape from the top of the brow bone. Shading is key here, as is using a softer pencil that will allow you to accentuate darker tones and draw in hairs to give the face a more detailed feel. This should be done using thin strokes, with hair becoming thicker and more tapered towards the far end of the eyebrow.
Add thickness to give a face a more defined and rugged look or opt for a thinner eyebrow if you’re aiming for a more feminine style.
Hairline
Getting the hairline right is a vital aspect of how to draw a head and face. In fact, this should be defined early on, well before you start adding hair to your portrait. Knowing where the hairline is will allow you to get the proportions of a face correct, ensuring the forehead is the right size and that features like the eyes and nose don’t appear too high.
Block out an area across the top of the head, known as the hair zone. A straight hairline will appear as a curve across the forehead, while a widow’s peak will have a point at the middle of the forehead. A receding hairline appears further back on the head.
Mark this in using light strokes, so when it comes to drawing hair you can erase the line as you begin adding in a style. The lines should act as a reference point for where hair starts and how it falls across the face of your subject.
